Dorelia Barahona Riera

Dorelia Barahona Riera studied Fine Arts and Philosophy at the University of Costa Rica. She is the author of three books of essays, seven novels, four collections of short stories and two plays. She has published two poetry books: La edad del deseo (Universidad de Costa Rica, 1993), and Fuera del Club (Índole, 2018). She is also a painter and writes newspaper articles and scripts. She teaches Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art at the National University in Costa Rica, where she also does research in the field of aesthetics. Her novel De qué manera te olvido (CONACULTA, 1990) won the Juan Rulfo Prize in 1989. Likewise, La edad del deseo received the Editorial Award from the University of Costa Rica. Other prizes include the 2006 Aportes Award for her novel La ruta de las esferas and the 2010 Iberescena Award for her play Y.O. Yolanda Oreamuno. She held a scholarship from the Fondo Mexicano para las Letras 2023, thanks to which she obtained a writing residency at Casa Gabriel García Márquez.
